Sweethearts For a Cause at the Interfaith Prayer Service for Ivory Coast

Sweethearts For a Cause attended the Interfaith Prayer Service for the Ivory Coast on June 26th, organized by Mr Innocent Ake.

The event, sponsored by The Commission on Peace & Justice of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany, The African Jubilee Association and the Ivorian community of Albany, took place at the College of Saint Rose Hubbard Interfaith Sanctuary.

Ivorians and friends of the Ivory Coast all gathered for the good cause. Muslims, Catholics, Jews and Baptists each took turns saying a prayer as a symbol of peace and unity, followed by a brief description of the situation in the Ivory Coast.

The prayer was then followed by a very moving testimony shared by a lady from Cameroon who lived in the Ivory Coast and who still has family there. She first described the Ivory Coast she knew: how beautiful it was, then talked about what her family went through during the war.

A man from the Ivory Coast also made an evaluation of the atmosphere there to let us know how much  help was needed.

The service ended with two young men from the Ivory Coast who performed a couple of religious songs and a closing speech by Mr. Ake.

On June 11th, 2011, Sweethearts For a Cause sold T-shirts, wallets, jewelry and scarves at downtown Albany’s annual Art on Lark craft fair.

Thank you to everyone who bought Sweethearts items!
